Who has the best original accent in the South?

Well, they pop up everywhere, mostly these days among the older people. I’d try to mimic them, but I don’t how to write accents.

South Carolina has lovely authentic accents in a few places. Alabama has the hardest, downright rural accent that I have heard. Mississippi accents are the deepest, most authentic accents right out of antebellum cotton plantations. The most fun accent I’ve heard is in Southside Virginia in the countryside between Halifax and Charlotte Court House, Virginia. I had a friend in Halifax whose accent sounded as if English was his second language. One afternoon, he said he going bring in his kahhs. That would be “cows.”

But the winner is East Tennessee, particularly between Greenville and Johnson City. It’s not the most pleasant accent to hear, but words come out there from the older generation that I had to ask what they meant. I love Tennessee.
